Purpose

The Creative 3D Designer is responsible for conceptualising and producing innovative 3D designs for events, ensuring they align with project objectives and the overall creative vision set by the Creative Lead. This role involves initialising and developing creative concepts into tangible 3D models and visualisations, bringing ideas to life with a strong emphasis on aesthetic appeal and technical feasibility. The 3D Designer will play a key role in the Creative Direction of the event; visualising event spaces, plotting attendee flow, designing engaging activations, stage designs, installations, and interactive experiences. You will primarily be leading the Creative vision of events and working closely with the Design team to produce awe-inspiring global events. You will be the first in-house 3D Creative employed by emc3, so your role is to really shape the Creative 3D language of the company.


Key Responsibilities

3D Design and Visualisation
  • Leading initial brainstorming sessions and producing the overall event look and free through moodboards
  • Translate initial 2D concepts, sketches, brand identities and briefs into detailed 3D designs and renders..
  • Develop high-quality 3D models and visualisations for various event elements, including stage and plenary designs, exhibition stands, immersive environments and activations, WOW moments, and bespoke installations for global audiences.
  • Work closely with Executive Producers and Production Managers to ensure all 3D designs are technically feasible for production and installation, considering materials, budget, and timelines.
Interdepartmental Collaboration
  • Work closely with the Creative Lead and the wider Design Studio to understand project requirements, SOW and contribute to brainstorming sessions.
  • Collaborate with production teams, Technical Directors, Project Managers and suppliers to ensure accurate implementation of spatial designs.
  • Present 3D concepts and visualisations to both internal teams and clients, articulating design choices and their impact.
  • Brief in Graphic and Motion designers on Creative concepts to help inspire event specific Graphic identities.
  • Incorporate feedback from stakeholders into design iterations while maintaining design integrity, acting as the brand/aesthetic custodian for the event.
Leading Creative
  • Assist the Creative Lead in developing visual narratives and storytelling through 3D design.
  • Leading Creative RFPs, shaping and taking ownership of the design look and feel across all Creative assets with the help of internal and freelance Graphic and Motion designers.
  • Stay updated on the latest industry trends (e.g., experiential design, virtual production, augmented reality).
  • Contribute to the innovation of existing event experiences by pushing creative boundaries.
  • Contribute to the development of best practices and workflows for 3D design within the company, and mentor junior designers as the team grows.
  • Ensure all 3D outputs meet high aesthetic and technical standards.
  • Prepare detailed technical drawings, specifications, and renders for costing and production.

Person Specification

Education

A bachelor’s degree in Experience Design, Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field. Relevant certifications in 3D software are a plus.

Project Experience

Proven experience in 3D design roles, ideally within the events, experiential marketing, or exhibition industries, with a strong portfolio showcasing conceptual and technical skills. 5 years in a relevant position would be ideal, but this is by no means set in stone.

Creativity and Design

Exceptional creative thinking and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail, and spatial awareness. Ability to generate innovative and impactful 3D solutions.

Creative Software

An expert proficiency in the following would be ideal:

  • 3D Modelling & Rendering:, SketchUp, Vectorworks, 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, V-Ray, AutoCAD
  • Graphic Design: Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Presentation Software: Tools like Microsoft PowerPoint, PItch or Google Slides for creating and delivering presentations.
Technical Understanding

A solid understanding of event production processes, materials, lighting, and structural considerations would be advantageous.

Communication

Excellent visual and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex Creative concepts clearly and effectively to both design-orientated and non-design-orientated stakeholders. The ability to effectively convey ideas and lead creative ideation conversations and pitches with clients is essential.

Problem-Solving

Strong problem-solving abilities, particularly in adapting designs to meet technical constraints or client revisions.

Attention to Detail

Meticulous attention to detail in all aspects of 3D modelling, rendering, H&S guides and floorplans.
